Five Game Recs: New Faves

New faves:

A couch brawler for the whole family! Seriously, all 6 of them. (Supports up to 6 players).

Nothing quite like a jittery cup of coffee splitting in two, coffee spilling all over the battlefield.

Such fun colors and controls, and a bopping menu and vibe that will transport you into happy-fun-time-ninja mode. (A deep reference from my childhood invisionfree forum days… gosh do you remember those times?)

A crowd-pleaser. Love to show this to new folks, and get them into it. Always they start to get a handle when the powerups suddenly start stacking. “Wait, these carry over between rounds?!”

Those bomb radiuses are not forgiving, watch out!

Animal Well blew me away! Honestly, I don’t want to tell you too much. Please just go play this one.

Proud to say i finished it, at least the main storyline. Still need to find most of those eggs…

I love the quiet of this game, the spaces. The sound design is wonderful.

The scale of it is perfect - not enormous, but enough to feel whole.

A Metroidbrainia! A fun genre name that applies well here.

The powerups! All are brilliant. None are a weapon. This game is decidedly anti-violent, and all puzzle solving.

The look and feel…. I’m so jealous. The CRTV and pixel art - my understanding is that the rendering is a custom engine, and it shows. So much depth to all the filtering, etc.

The boss battles and so many sequences with the animals are all gorgeous and haunting.

This game is an inspiration - I’d love to achieve something even close to this level.

On the other end, and certainly not an indie game. I don’t go in for big games much, though I’ve recently been playing Witcher 3 and Shadow of Mordor… Maybe I’m going through something?

My wife and I love to watch the Indiana Jones films, and this is great to play through together - the cinematics and story are great, and it feels great to be Harrison Ford.

At some point, I really should just turn off the game and watch the movie… only I’ve seen them too many times. So this is the next best thing.

I’m not too far yet, but some things I like: the way the map melds into the actual gameplay (look down to see it, vs the usual time-stop pause menu), the spaces designed for exploration and the danger of being detected if you act a fool. Not new mechanics for the first-person genre, but very well executed and polished in this one.

Ok, I haven’t actually played this yet - but the trailer and concept struck me immediately as the kind of thing I love. I bought it and will update once it gets some action.

So far, the nonsense is my favorite. We’ll see how it plays out.

Playing through this story has been great so far. This kind of chapter-book style (probably there is a better name) is an interesting structure, maybe something I should reach for in my own games. (Reminds me of 198X as well).

Another good one to play through with the wife - more story, less repetitive action.
